Sweetheart,

All of us hope this letter gets to you and that you're doing well! Your mother and I miss you, little girl; we wish we could be there right now. Your dad is especially missing his father-daughter hugs! You know things just aren't the same without you. But we're all doing fine, the entire family. Your mom and I are still taking our walks and arguing about what kind of salad to have with dinner. The same old things.

All of your friends also say hi with many exclamation points! Bobby with probably the most. They're missing you, too. Haha, if we mailed all of their messages and get-well gifts, your room would be overflowing with them, no doubt about it.

Don't worry if you're not able to reply back, we're happy enough imagining you reading this--and that you're smiling. Your brother--he's standing here as I write this--wants you to know we're all thinking of you. It was decided I'd do the writing this time, but you should know that he'd like to be able to write to you, too. If you're feeling up to it, he'd also like to start making visits, this week if possible. Maybe it's time to give it a shot? You're a strong girl, and the doctors have assured us it's good for you to see each other, but as ever it's your choice. The only reason I'm mentioning this here is because the hospital only allows so many people to visit at once, so we wouldn't be able to accompany him if he should go. If we could call and ask you, we would.

But if you don't feel ready for him to visit yet, that's okay. He'll understand. It comes down to what's best for you, kid, and in this case only you can know that. Don't push yourself. I mean that, too! I don't have to be sitting across from you to know what you're thinking. My dad powers of perception work through time, space, and paper.

(Mom doesn't find that funny, but I'm perfectly serious.)

I wish I knew for sure you've gotten this in time, or that someone else has told you about visitation day, but your mom and I just want you to know that we'll see you again as soon as we can. We love you. I hope you and all your new friends are having fun and that you're eating! Mom doesn't want to see some skinny kid next time--she'll stuff you full of dumplings until you burst! Until then, okay?

Lots of love,

Dad, Mom, Michio
